Earn Your Badge at Junior Refuge Ranger Day at Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge

Families looking for things to do with kids near Las Vegas and meaningful outdoor educational events in Southern Nevada will not want to miss Junior Refuge Ranger Day at Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge.

This special event invites children to explore the desert, learn about endangered species, and earn their official Junior Refuge Ranger badge. Gisa is honored to be there signing copies of Fish in the Desert, my children’s book inspired by this extraordinary place.

Located in Nye County, Nevada, just a short drive from Las Vegas, Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is one of the most biologically unique desert ecosystems in North America.

Although surrounded by the Mojave Desert, Ash Meadows is home to more than 30 crystal clear springs that support rare and endangered species found nowhere else on Earth.

One of its most remarkable residents is the Devils Hole pupfish, a tiny desert fish that survives in warm spring water where few other species can live. Its survival story is a powerful example of conservation science in action and the inspiration behind Fish in the Desert.

Bring water, sun protection, and comfortable walking shoes. The desert may seem quiet at first glance, but its springs are alive with stories of survival and conservation.

We hope to see you at Junior Refuge Ranger Day at Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, where you can explore, learn, and celebrate the wild beauty of Southern Nevada together.
