SCVBAI Webinar Will Explore Children’s Book Branding, Editing, and Publishing

Many people dream about writing a children’s book. Fewer people get to see what happens after the first draft is finished.

On June 3 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., the Santa Clarita Valley Children’s Book Authors and Illustrators will host a webinar focused on the real process behind creating and publishing children’s books. Authors and illustrators will share practical advice about writing, editing, printing, marketing, and building a career in children’s literature. Gisa will be presenting on children’s book branding and the importance of finding a strong editor.

For new writers, branding can feel like a business term that does not belong in the creative world. But in children’s publishing, branding often helps readers, teachers, librarians, and families recognize an author’s work and understand how one book connects to the next.

Gisa will discuss how branding helps create consistency across books, school visits, websites, and social media. A clear identity can help readers know what kind of stories and experiences they can expect from an author’s work.

She will also talk about one of the most important parts of publishing a children’s book: working with an editor.

A good editor does much more than correct spelling or punctuation. Editors help writers strengthen story structure, improve pacing, clarify confusing sections, and shape manuscripts so they connect more naturally with young readers. In picture books especially, every word matters. Small changes can completely change the flow and emotional impact of a story.

Many children’s books go through multiple rounds of revision before publication. That process can be challenging, but it is often what helps transform an early draft into a polished book that children want to read again and again.

The webinar will also cover topics including choosing an illustrator, formatting a manuscript, selecting a printer, understanding traditional versus independent publishing, and marketing children’s books.

For aspiring authors, the event offers an opportunity to hear directly from people actively working in the field and creating books for young readers.
